Summer Sizzle Jazz Festival Cancelled

(Milwaukee, WI)  The Historic Third Ward Jazz Festival: Summer Sizzle has been cancelled for 2009, but organizers say it will return next year.

     The Association said that tougher economic times resulted in the decision to take a year off and concentrate on the 2010 event.  The festival was scheduled to be held on July 31 and August 1. “We’re grateful to our long time sponsors and many other supporters and festival goers and this has been a very difficult decision for us,” said Nancy O’Keefe, Executive Director of the Historic Third Ward Association.

     Summer Sizzle was not designed to make money for the Association, but rather to bring awareness of the Third Ward neighborhood to visitors and to provide great music and a good time for those who live and work there.  The festival needs to generate enough income through sponsorships and revenue at the event to support itself.

     “We are very disappointed for all of the people who will miss the event,” O’Keefe said. “But we will begin raising funds later this year to plan for a bigger and better Sizzle in 2010.”
